Volunteers are popping up everywhere!

WOW!


I never imagined that we would have responses so quickly! Only hours after I sent out the email directing people to this blog, we have a landscape architect, a web-designer and a photographer all willing to donate their time and services!

Tom Berkley is offering his services as a landscape architect

and Stacey Hedman has offered free photography services, which may come in handy when reporters from near and far want to write about how a little town called Mashpee pulled together and created an amazing dog park. You know they will need pictures :)

3/7/09 Our first Saturday Morning Social of 2009

What a fun social! 


What stands out the most (aside from Chase finding Gracie and Bailey quite nubile) is the image of Bunker and Annie, two labradoodles running at top speed chasing each other around and around the Green. You'd think that sentence would end with "until they couldn't run any more", but that's not the case. I think, even after an hour and a half, they could have kept going, possibly for the entire day!!!! I wish I had that kind of energy. Maybe that could be a new vitamin for humans...The Labradoodle vitamin, keeps you going all day long!

I want to send a BIG thank you to everyone who came to the social and graciously donated $5 towards the Mashpee Dog Park. We raise $65!  I immediately went to the bank and made the deposit. The MDP account officially has $665.00 in it. OK, so it's not the thousands we will need, but it is a start and everybody starts at zero right?

These wonderful pooches all pitched in for the MDP: Bailey, Gracie, Bunker, Clara, Frankie, Spencer, Rufus, Lucy & Ethel, Mackenzie, Rory, Luke and the adorable little goldendoodle whose name is escaping me! (Of course as soon as I press "publish" it will come to me!)

ABOUT THE DOG PARK:

Some of you heard me talking about the status of the Dog Park. For those who didn't here is the info:

We have our EIN number, so we are an official non-profit group. We are in the lengthy process of applying for 501c3 status. Once we have that, all donations to the Mashpee Dog Park Committee will qualify as tax deductible.

There is an amazing piece of land that we are currently hoping to secure for the park. It was picked out by the Mashpee DPW. We need to find a landscape architect or some other qualifying person to draw up a design for us, based on this piece of land. Once that is complete, we will go before the Conservation Commission to see if the intended use of the land qualifies as "conservation".

That is step one, and once we clear that hurdle, I believe we go before the board of selectman for final approval. In the meantime, we are coming up with ideas for fundraising, we are looking for someone to create a website for us for the MDP, we are gathering names of people who would like to volunteer in any way, and we are in the process of creating a committee.

Once we find a generous web person who can create a simple site for us, we will use it to show you all the progress and provide you with updates on the creation of what will be the best official dog park on the Cape!
